As far as I can tell Universal discontinued the c series in 1923 but I have a friend that has one with electric start and electric ignition. both look like they belong where they are. The engine shows every little wear but runs great. Any information would be helpfull.

Did they have electric ignition and electric starters in 1923? I know they did by 1933 with the Universal Utility Four. I thought they might be an add-on but can't find any evidence of one being available. [email protected] |

Richard, Thank you very much, I didn't think they had electric starters in the early 20's. Then others I was emailing echoed the same doubt. Is there any way that I could find out what this engine would be worth? Thank you, Jack |

I have two Universal Model C engines. They are basically parts engines. I am trying to make one that works for an old launch. Does anyone know 1) bearing clearances 2) source for bearings 3) crancase oil capacity |

Universal model C Technical questions. Can anyone help? Uninversal Mod C is back from machine shop after extensive repairs, including new babbitt main and rod bearings. These came from the shop with 10 mil shims (both sides). Plastigage shows clearance 2-3 mils. This engine is splash lubricated. Should these clearances be larger? Should they be adjusted after break-in? What oil should be used? |
