What sparked your imagination with this poem... hope it wasn't all the seaweed that you had to rake out of your yard after the hurricane(s)  ...
THE RUDDER was a great magazine. The articles, the art, the ads, and even the poetry! I often thought that it would be great if someone would republish it on a subscription basis 100 years later. In September 2004 your would receive a reprint of the September 1904 issue. Those were really the glory years of THE RUDDER in the early 1900's. |

Maybe just looking for the brighter or ethereal side of things right now, spent today still cleaning up, raking seaweed, removing tree branches and just trying to get back to normal here. the tail end of IVAN came back through here two days ago and took more trees and power cables down, knocked me off line again for two days, same storm hitting Texas coast as I write this. 4 th storm in one month, and now Hurricane Jean is bearing down on the Bahamas and east coast of florida category two and increasing to cat 3 , just got storm plywood down, may be going right back up again, I am getting to familiar with the drill !!
Great idea to republish the Rudder again, I have heard it said that the late 1890's through the 19teens was the Golden Age of the marine gasoline engine, its inventivness , ingenuity, developement and exciting enthusiasm was reflected in those old publications I get caught up in all of it just reading them. try to share some of it on your wonderful web site here, thanks Richard |
