Its been Rebuilt But the battery cant turn the engine over fast enough. The battery is fully charged it just cant turn it fast eniugh. I removed the plugs and turned it over effortless. So I beleive there is too much compression that the batery is fighting. I would like to drop a little compression, Any help.

James, I would look more to the starter as my problem. Sometimes the windings in those things are shorted internally and not to ground. That makes them weak with a full load on them. Also make sure all connections are really clean and tight. Are the cables the right size and not to small? Just some thoughts away from compression.

Audie's comments are good pointers.

I found the same thing - the starter just kinda grinds away and does not turn the engine over smartly. That what these engines needs - a smart turm and they'll run easily.
My solutions was to put a second 6V battery in series with the starter lead to hit the starter with 12V - but everything else is 6V incl the solenoid. After almost 10 years of this treatment there is no sign of wear or damage.
I suspect it si because the starter does turn over very much compared to the slower speed at 6V.
I had actually bent the starter drive shaft trying to start the engine on 6V - it coughed backfired and engaged the bendix and bent the shaft slightly. I simply took it apart, bashed it in the right spot to get it true again .

I've recommended to a number of Buchanan owners and all of them have found it to be OK. Just make sure that if the engine doesn't start quickly - don't keep trying to start it on 12V. FInd out what the problem is .
