i have a 39 gray marine 6-125. i have converted to a neg ground but i am having a difficult time. when the plug is held off the head there will be a nice spark that will jump but when the plug is laying on the head there will be virtually no spark at all. i think that i am missing something easy. i have the pos from the battery going to the pos on the coil. the neg from the coil going to the distrib. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. thanks |

Seems like a fouled plug to me. Coils have to build up enough voltage to jump the gap. If a plug is fouled, the voltage will not build up, it will leak to ground. When you hold the plug away from the head you take away the path to ground, voltage builds and jumps the gap. |
