I just finished restoring a Palmer YT-1 and am now working on a YT-2. Mine is missing the breather. I can't find a picture that shows what it looks like. Can any out there help me with this. Being a 2 cylinder engine, does it need a breather? |

YT-2 didn't have a breather valve. Didn't need it as a 2 cylinder engine. Mine has a vertical about 6" piece of brass pipe with a brass pipe cap with hole drilled in it. Looks to be original. Others may have a different style. Do your YT-1 or YT-2 have serial numbers? |

Hi Dick, The serial numbeers are as follows:
YT-2 2198326
YT-1 3245246 (one pictured)
YT-1 2820231
I also have a third YT-1 that doesn't have a name plate. It is on early one with the slanted spark plug.
Thanks for the information on the YT-2 breather. I just had a threaded nipple in the breather hole. |

Unlike a single cylinder engine multiple cylinder engines don't require a crankcase breather VALVE to avoid oil being pushed out of the crankcase. My YT-2 made in 1924 simply has a �" pipe plug in the oil fill on the Starboard side. No dip stick and the plug appears to be original to the engine. Just forward of the oil pump on the starboard side is a brass �" close nipple with a 90 el with a close nipple to a 45 el with bronze screen to act as a crankcase vent/Breather. It appears to be original to the engine. Some YT-2s have a vertical brass pipe in the forward oil fill approximately 6-7" tall with a cap that may have holes bored it as a second crankcase VENT. I was in error so went and looked at my YT-2 and then I remembered it was Bill Fiege's that has the vertical pipe. I called him and he said it was on the engine when he got it. YT-2 2020824 Has the residue of the same brass vent less the screen I describe above and it also has a plug in the oil fill as mine does. I know of no YT-2 with a dip stick. |

Hello All, I just acquired a Palmer model H H 7hp twin cylinder gas engine, and I cant seem to find any information about it. ser. # 3491150 any help would be greatly appreciated.

The engine was made in 1950 The last two digits of a Palmer engine serial number from about 1909 to 1965/66 when they changed to the last number only represent the year the engine was made. If you will send me an e-mail I will snail mail you some more info regarding the HH. There are a number of them around but too many are salt water engines and have badly cracked water jackets. |
