The best deal is take a standard T ford engine with its planatary reverse gear and straight through drive in high. Thats the way many old timers used them on the lakes up in NH when I was growing up. Great little unit and no messing about trying to cut down the engine and finding a suitable reverse gear. Use the hand brake for nuetral and step on reverse for reverse. You will need a jacket water pump driven off the fan belt pulley.
