I just bought a Newfoundland dory with a 4 hp acadia, I took apart the engine to have a look at the inside of the cylinder and to clean the rust from inside the water jacket. Iside the cylinder right inside the manifold the liner has a little nic,along side the manifold port's. It do not interfere with the rings on the piston as it moves quiet easy with no obstructions.The edge of the port hole is just a little to rough to my liking.Anything I should do with it or do you think I can use her like it.

A picture would help. However if it works don't fix it! Remember these engines are definatly "lo tech" Most of our old toys are crude by todays standards. The 3 hp Acadia that I have apart right now has ports that are really rough around the edges. As long as the pins to position the rings are still located correct and the rings DO not have end gaps in the port area you should be fine. Have fun with it.

I have a 3HP Acadia and am trying to find the age. Serial # is 3 3 8 5 4.This baby is a beauty but I certainly would like to know its age. I also have the owners manual but no luck there.

Bill,
Use the Keyword Search link on the left and searc for the word acadia. You will find a post about Acadia serial numbers with information from Larry Anger about research he is doing. Contact him and give him your serial number.
I don't know of any other Acadia serial number list. The Acadia engines changed very littly over many years of production... so it would be very hard to "date" your engine any other way. My best guess is that most of the Acadia engines around today are recent vintage. The Acadia were workboat engines that were used almost exclusively in salt water... most of the early ones probably rusted away.

On Acadia 3hp engines were the serial numbers stamped into the name plate or silk screened (painted)on? On the engine I recently aquired the plate has no numbers stamped but if I use a bit of imagination and a bright light I think I can see a ghost of at least one number that may have been painted on at one time or other.

If your tag has no number the cylinder was most likely a replacement part at one time or another.

I have a 3.h.p. Acadia engine which was completely rebuilt at the Acadia Shop in St. John's in 1952 and never used after. I have the shaft ( with universal joint) and blades. I may be interested in selling . |

I don't have a picture but it is very simple. Wire from one side of coil to ignitor. Second wire from other side of coil to positive of battery. Wire from negative of battery to ground on engine base. i usually place mine where I bolt engine to bed of boat. Not sure where you are but I am on East Coast and may be able to help further. If I can help, just email me.
