When cleaning out our parents attic, ( they have passed on) we found an old Kermath single cylinder, I beleive it has been stored there for 40 years, and it was removed from a lauch my uncle had back in the 1920's or 30's. Is it worth holding on to or should we discard it like my brother in-law wanted to do? It is in very very good condition, It still turns over by hand. |

Jim Can you post pictures? If not, email them to Andrew. He will post them. It does have value, so don't discard it. |

Kieth, I have forwarded the pictures to Andrew, I am assuming he is the Admin. I tried to find a way to post the photos with the original message but could not find one. |

Andrew, Thanks so much for posting the pictures.Very glad we saved a useful item. Unfortunately I arrived a day to late to my parents estate. They had already hauled off the manuals, prop, propeller shaft, and two spare magnetos to the dump. I am not very knowledgeable of the value, or if this is a 4 or 2 stroke, or when it was built. I am almost tempted to build a launch or locate a salvageable hull to put this gizmo in. My wife gave me an ultimatum, make use of it or sell it, but do not let it collect dust in our garage! Thanks again for a great informative website, |

Jim I don't know much about Kermath engines, but that seems like a cute and complete little unit with trans. Shame about the other items. I would expect you might get some offers from this site. If not, you can always list it on Ebay. |

Great little engine!! Thank you for saving it. That's just about I'd love to get my hands on some day (even have the boat in mind for it). Good luck with it. |

I would go to the dump and see about getting those items back! Have you had any offers on it yet? |

A friend of mine had one of those in a small wooden sailboat called the sea pup when I was a kid. That engine sounded sooo cool :-) and always started on the second pull. Those are sweet engines! |

This is a Kermath Sea Pup, 5 HP first introduced in 1948 also sold as the Atomic 1. It is a 4 stroke. Yours is even a later version perhaps 52 as it has a WICO magneto. The first mags were hopeless so be glad of this. The spare magnetos were worth about $250 apiece and can still be purchased new. It is a nice first engine - very simple to work on. |
