Hi All, I'm looking for a water pump for a Palmer P-60. The original pump is a Sherwood E20, which Sherwood doesn't make anymore. The pump leaks from a small hole in the bottom of the housing. I don't know the purpose of the hole or how to stop it leaking. I'm new to this engine. From other postings, I understand this engine is actually the same as the IH C-60 tractor engine, but haven't been able to find pump parts by that route either. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Kevin,
You're partly right about the IH C-60 tractor but the water pump is one of the areas where it deviates from the tractor. Among the other diferences are the crankshaft, flywheel, and most critically the exaust manifold. You should be able to rebuild the pump by matching up the impeller and seals.

Thanks Eddie. That's good to know. I'm trying to find a major repair kit but not having much luck.

The Sherwood catalog says the E20 is obsolete and there isn't a replacement available. Doesn't list a major or minor repair kit either. They list a seal & seat and lip seal and bearing assembly, but they're proving hard to find. Any suggestions?

Kevin,
The leak is comming out of a weep hole similiarly as it would an automotive water pump. The seals and bearings are similiar to automotive And any auto parts shop familiar with rebuilding water pumps can help you with that area. The impeller is where it differs from automotive. Automotive is metallic and operates by centrifugal principle. Marine is rubber and is a vane type. While you have it out you should replace the impeller as it wears and/or deteriorates. A spare impeller is a vitial spare part to carry on a boat. West Marine or any marine supply should be able to match up your impeller.

My water pump (Palmer P60) is also leaking. Have you found replacement or found a source for rebuild kit?

Depco has a kit that will fit your E20 pump, assuming your Palmer still has the original Sherwood pump. Their link is: http://www.depcopump.com/

I'm rebuilding an E-20 Sherwood water pump for a Pamler P-60 engine. Will I need a press to remove the old and install the new oil seals? Aslo, is there a snap ring or other retainer between the 2 oil seals?

Hello Eric,

Have you taken the pump apart yet? The first thing to do is to check out the pump shaft see if it is good enough to continue in service. If not, you cannot buy a replacement shaft without custom machining. If you need a parts diagram of the Sherwood E-20 pump, let me know, and I will send you one. And yes, a press is definately handy for the bearings.
