I HAVE A 318 CHRYSTLER AND I STARTED IT UP FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2 YEARS THE LIFTERS WERE MAKING SOME NOISE SO I TOOK THE VALVE COVERS OFF AND NOTICED THE OIL TO BE THIN AND IT SMELLED LIKE GAS SO I CHANGED THE OIL AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN.

Check your mechanical fuel pump diaphram-bet its cracked and leaking gas into the base. happened to me on my 6cyl Graymarine.

Does it have an engine mounted fuel pump? It might be that the diaphram is leaking into the base.

are the gas tanks above the engine.
