I'm working for a museum in Norway specializing in antique boat/ship restoration. At the moment we're working on an old pleasure craft, which will ideally be restored to it's original condition. It was built in 1916 and had installed a 10 hp Regal gas engine, which has since been discarded. These engines used to be popular for Norwegian lightboats, but few of them remain. We're therefore casting our gaze overseas to find out wether there might be more of these engines abroad. If you happen to have one which you are willing to sell, or know someone who might know more about these engines, then please let me know below or share this thread. Polarwolf, Nice looking boat! Most of the Regal engines that I have seen are the one and two cylinder models of 3 to 5 horsepower. You can use the search link at the top and search the word REGAL to see a lot of posts about Regal engines and maybe you will see some of the higher HP models. Good luck! Andrew |

We've come a little further. We found an 8-10 hp engine, which we are currently restoring before installation. We are however struggling somewhat with finding/rebuilding the reversing gear. The gear is made by Paragon. The gear shaft is 34.86mm thick and approximately 45.5cm long. Does anyone know where it is possible to buy a replacement? alternatively, does anyone have blueprints, pictures, or other specifications which can be used for rebuild? I'll try to get back with some pictures, but I have to adjust the file sizes before I upload. |

I might have a gearbox that might work for you.I rescue these gearboxes when I see one at a show or flea market. A couple of years ago, I sent a gear box from here in Ontario Canada to a fellow in California. I made a sturdy wooden shipping box to protect it. As I recall, that shipping was several hundred dollars. The gear box weighs about 40-50 kg. and the box was at least 5-6 kg. The gearbox I have in mind is in storage abut over the next month or so, I could get some pictures for you. The city of origin for shipping is Toronto Canada. Miro |
