Hi All,
I am the grandson of Raphael Chianelli and the son of Frank Chianelli. The both were pattern makers for Palmer Engine Co. in Cos Cob (Greenwich), CT. This was around the mid 1920s. Grandfather came from Italy with training and talent in wood carving. He trained his son (my father). I cannot speak to the exact work my grandfather did but I�m sure it was closely related to my dad�s work. They created wood parts that were cast in brass or bronze in the company�s own foundry which was right next door to the wood shop.
My father kept a carving in his shop at home that was created by his father. It is a �Green Witch� riding a boat propeller shaft. I have uploaded a picture of the Green Witch now framed for display in my home.
If anyone has information about this carving, I would be ever grateful.
I look forward to hearing from anyone about the early days of Palmer Engine Co. and any of it's employees.
