hi iv just got my hands on a p5m and looking for a workshop manual and a lucas sr magneto.any have eny idea were i can find them. |

Hello Jamie What is your location. I'm in the same position as yourself. I do have a manual for the R3M which I believe could be very helpful. Also I see that copies are available on EbayUK but I begrudge the cost at UKĀ£15, so I am holding off. I've sent an email to Mike Sutcliffe in Aussieland who was offering to photocopiy in 2005 If the result is good I'll let you know. |

Hello Jamie & Dave,There is a wonderful YAHOO Group called the STINFOEXCHANGE, in the uk it has world wide membership and has a ful range of info on most stuarts and it is absolutely free.sign up as a member and put any problems you might have to the group someone is sure to have a solution . best regards from steve. |

Hello Jamie & thank you for the recommendation, Steven. Jamie the Yahoo Group does have quite a lot of files and plenty of information. I've left an enquiry with them regarding any pitfalls that there may be when removing a P5M gearbox. The files they have are comprhensive and cover more models and ancilliaries than I can remember. The P5M and SR are among them. The files that you are getting from [email protected] will be very useful especially if they are .pdf. The ones I've looked at on STINFOEXCHANGE are .jpg and I'm having to consider ways to convert to a more easily viewable and printable format. There's an 11 year old in the family who will be able help me in that regard. Dave B. |

Hello David,i think youve prompted a response from me regarding gearbox removal,in all of the gearboxes ive ever removed i can quite honestly say i have never had any problems , as long as you drain the oil out and then remove them square to the mating surface of the engine it should slide off the end of the crankshaft, The only gearbox i have ever had any trouble with was an R3m they can be quite tricky.good luck steve. |

I've recently acquired a Stuart P5M - which will look fab when cleaned and all the brass polished up! Better still if I can get it to run :-) It currently has a seized piston, which we're slowly working on, but everything seems to be there... apart from the magneto. At some point in its life it has been fitted with a starter motor, a coil, presumably a battery, and a contacts set in the old magneto drive housing. The mag drive now has a blanking plate over the refitted points. Questions: Can I refit a mag to this? If so, what do I need? (Replace blanking plate, fit a drive shaft, fit an SR1 mag?) Has anyone got them?? Presumably, if someone has fitted a coil and contacts set to their engine, they may have the old bits somewhere?

Hi all, Greetings from the bottom of the world in NZ. First time posting here. I've recently picked up a 14ft launch with a really original P5ME in it. The previous owner said it runs well, but being a marine engineer and seeing what the previous owner has done around the boat, we're going to run it up first. Previous owner mentioned he had to use 'a fair bit' of ether to start it, so we're obviously concerned about rings. The question today is what spark plug should be in these engines please. There's a new plug in it, but no idea if it's the right one or not. Could be a clue to the starting problems. Much appreciated, Mike. |
