Hi, can anybody help? I have got an old coventry gas two cylinder motor, motor# 50094 and look for a spare part magnetic ignition. Does anybody give a clue where to get this piece? Thank You C. |

Pictures always help to identify the engine and the part that you are searching for. I suspect that you are looking for a magneto, but do you have the old magneto now, or is it completely missing? If you have the old one, the magnets can be refreshed, points can be replaced and the coils can be re-wound. Even if you do find a replacement magneto , it too might need re-building, since it might be up to 70 years old. Miro |

Here's the feedback from a pal . . .Miro This is a later model Coventry Victor engine from the 1960s. It has extras on it like a belt-driven generator. But the Lucas magneto would be identical to the ones on 1954 and up Greavettes. From what I can see, everything appears unmolested, and my guess is that simply cleaning the interrupter points would get it working. The rotor with the points on it is accessible simply by removing the bakelite cap off the end. Then remove the the long screw in the centre of rotor and very carefully pry the rotor off its taper. With the assy. off, it is easy to brighten up the contacts without changing the factory adjustments or ignition timing. If the mag is removed from the engine, you are in a long complicated job to replace it correctly, so dont. Also, no battery current should ever be passed thru a magneto. And remember that an external Ignition switch is a killswitch: closing the switch grounds out the mag. Hope this helps. |
