Hi folks. So, this is a new one. Helping my neighbor and turned out we found an entire Gray Marine motor completely buried in his backyard. To say this is a mystery is an understatement! This is a normal backyard in a normal neighborhood. Really crazy. We are both just curious if it's even possible to ID the motor just to get an idea of how long this thing has been sitting there buried. There is not a lot remaining on it. One thing I thought was interesting is that all the pictures I can find online of these motors have Gray Marine on a plate attached to the block. This one has the name stamped very deeply directly into the block itself. The only other thing we can find so far is the firing order for the cylinders is also stamped directly into the block. It's an unusual find, for sure! Thanks for anything anyone can suggest. https://photos.app.goo.gl/WKLGLQwM6FeK1jyr8 https://photos.app.goo.gl/pTpQa6zTqpTUKUjc9 https://photos.app.goo.gl/pW4RoPK2P3xxRpLSA |

Matt, Looks like there might still be a plate on the exhaust manifold. Can you clean it off and see if anything is legible? |

It's an engine block (Hercules) used by several marine engine builders - Chris Craft, Buchanan etc in the 1950's and 1960's miro |

Unfortunately the plate on the manifold was either blank or is so worn from the time, water, and dirt that it's blank. Thank you for the info, Miro! |
