By the way the rear main bearing housing is upside down.

Hi Ernie,
Thanks for the tip about the rear main bearing housing. I was not intending to break down the engine any more then I have since it seems to be in pretty good shape. However, now that you pointed it out, I have seen pictures where the flat deck of this part was used to mount an oiler? I do not know, but assume, that it has been run like this so am reluctant to turn it.
I went to UMASS/Dartmouth so used to live down in that area Lakeville,etc. |

I wouldn't worry about turning it over. These things aren't that precise. Also it will make it a lot easier to install the grease cup for the rear main bearing.
I have a complete 3 hp model S with lubricator. Just can't seem to find any pics right now |

I think I have seen pictures of it elsewhere on this site. Just ordered plugs and gasket material. Can't go out to buy but can still collect ingredients. |

One part didn't seem to fit to well. The grease cup going to rear bearings seems to rub on a bolt holding the bearing housing to the crankcase. Not sure if I am using the right grease cup assembly here but the other one would do the same thing. The housing is up-side down but even if I turn right side up the problem is still the same. It will screw in but just seems to close |

Almost got it going off primer only. No tank, but carburetor bowl is full. However, there doesn't seem to be any fuel coming from the carb. I am going to check to see if there is some gunk in the carburetor pick up from the bowl. You tube link here:

Hi Miro, Thanks for the advice on the carb. I am waiting to get a bucket of water for cooling before I start to run it long enough make adjustments. I am also looking for a muffler solution (which doesn't have to be the permanent solution) because I am running it in Somerville and I think my neighbors are probably freaking out. I used to like the sound when I would hear it in old dories but that was not in a tight neighborhood. |

If you look carefully inside the engine intake and exhaust ports, you'll see that there is almost nothing holding the cylinder to the crankcase but a few narrow webs of cast iron around the intake and exhaust ports. Most of the "holding" is done by the water jacket.
Will the boat be running in salt water?

Yes, I intend to run the boat in salt water. Are you referring to the thin webs shown in this picture?
I don't know if this engine has been in salt water before.  |

Yes, that's all that is connecting the top of the engine to the bottom, except of course for the stout water jacket.
I'm sure that some one did some thinking about how thin these webs could be before things would go awry.
