Looking in the campion book it shows most all the J8J plugs replaced by RJ8C.The biggest differance is that they are resistor plugs. If you have good coil they will work.A delco 45 is the same heat range but doesn't have the cut back electrode that a J8J would have, but the RJ8C wont have that either.I have found it much easyer to find these nonresistor plugs in AC delco than campion. For anyone else out there replace J6J with delco 43 much easyer to find. |

Amazing!!! I was posting on the Kermath engine and noticed this thread. We used to own a 1965 Lyman with a Gray marine, we ran into the same dilemma about J8 plugs. The only difference between a J8J and the RJ8C is they have added a resistor to combat electrical interference with electronic equipment. The factory rep at Champion confirmed this for us as long as you have a good coil. We were very concerned about damaging our Gray and researched the issue very carefully. They ran fine with out any issues for 2,000+ hours before we sold the boat. The same holds true J6. Delco is planning on stopping production of non resistor product in the near future,if not already. Stock up on the plugs if you can find them. Hope this helps, Jim |
