Well, with the acquisition of a 1947 GarWood I felt compelled to join this group. The Chrysler Crown M27 is a "newer" engine to many of you, but certainly old enough to make research difficult at times. I am looking for a manual, but also some understanding of this complicated cooling system, with thermostat and bypass. I run on an inland lake, summers only. Can I cap off the bypass somehow and not hurt the engine? The bypass precludes me holding a prime in the waterpump for whatever reason. Thanks. |

The bypass hose is teed into the raw water suction and will cause the pump to suck air on start up. The quick, non-elegant fix is to put a loop in the bypass hose so that a little water is held there when the engine is off. Imagine the hose running along the bottom then making a roller coaster loop then along the bottom again to the tee. Fought this battle before and eventually won! |

I have acquired a Chrysler Crown M-27 engine in pieces to install in a 1948 Shepherd. Does anyone have a drawing or sketch of the plumbing. I have some of the piping but no hoses so it is difficult to guess the layout. |
