Hello - I have just performed my first oil change on my Graymarine Phantom Six - 104. The previous two changes were done by an engine restoration service and then by a boat restorer. The specs (Gray Marine manual) indicate an oil volume of 9 quarts for this engine. The oil dipstick reads a little over full after only 5 quarts. In addition, the running engine oil pressure is ~40 also on only 4.5-5 qts. When asked, the boat restorer indicated they likely only put in 4-6 quarts when the engine was winterized last year. As a result, I was only able to remove about 4-5 quarts when the engine was warm. What is going on here? Either 4 quarts of oil are hiding somewhere or the engine appears to be full on only 5. Anyone else have this issue? Does anyone have a picture of their Six-104 dipstick to see if someone changed mine (although very unlikely)? I don't want to stuff 9 quarts of oil into the engine if the indicators say its already full. |

From what location are you removing the oil? Are you removing the transmission cover to suck out the oil? |

Hmm, .... Gray flat head six, about 226 CID. Nine quarts is about right (goes into the reverse gear also). |
