The boat is a 1947 Shepherd 17' Utility with a Gray Marine 6 cyl engine. The engine I believe is correct for the year but the gearbox nameplate says the engine is a Model 109, SN G23306 which would date the engine to mid to late 1950's. I believe the gearbox is not original and misleading. The prior owner says the engine is a Phantom 6 (104?) but I can't confirm. The numbers on the head are F600A 468 0 with a HI-6 and an "S" inside a diamond. The numbers on the block are F600A 496 S with L28T. Does this info get me any closer to identifying which model Gray this is? |

There should be a small round tag on the carb. What are the numbers on it? |

Jim, Appreciate your assistance with this ID. Based on that can I assume this a Model 100 and not a Model 109 like the gearbox plate says? Also, given the boat is a 1947 model, I must assume at least the carburetor and the gearbox are not original. Is this a fair assumption? |

Something has been changed. You have to figure out if it was the carb or reverse gear. |
