Hi, I'm in the process of helping a friend go through her husband's workshop and he has a lunenburg atlantic 8hp engine I believe he was restoring. If anyone could help me with information on it, what needs doing on it to make it serviceable so I can add that info to post for selling and its value that would be a great help. She is worried about being left with all his stuff and no idea what it is or what to do with it. I'll add pictures and if any specifics are needed please do let me know. Thankyou all for any help and time you can give!

it is an interesting engine because it uses the low voltage ignition AND it is a 2 cylinder edition.
If there is compression, and the bearings are OK, then it is probably a runner.The ignition is robust and pretty simple once you understand how it works.
As for value on a running engine, my guess is in the $500 - $700 range. If there is work to be done to get it running, then take $200 off that estimate. All of this assumes that it is NOT an engine that was run in slat water.
If that's the case, it is a parts engine - the salt that has penetrated the cast iron cylinders will surely destroy them once they dry out.
A parts engine would be $200- $300 at best.
IF it is a salt water engine, then PLEASE do not let the cylinder water jackets dry out - fill them with antifreeze ( 50-50)
