I would like to talk to someone who knows how to adjust a Detroit reverse gear. It appears to be a simple adjustment but somehow I've got it locked up. Oops You can reach me at [email protected] or call 661 303 12 03 |

There is usually a cone slide that is moved by a fork attached to the shift lever. You should be able to see all of this if you take the cover off - although you might have to hang yourself from the rafters by your ankles to get at the this. Since most of the reverse gears share the oil with the crankcase, lubrication is not an issue. It might be the case that there is a small groove worn on the cone which engages the fingers that press the clutch plates together, and its now bad enough that it won't release. It would help if you took a picture of the view inside the gear box with the cover off - not easy to do - at least not on my boat. I assume that the shifting rods from the shift lever from up front to the gear are not tight or binding in some way. miro. |
