Hello, I am rebuilding a 3 cylinder 1912 chase truck engine. this engine is a air cooled 2 cycle model. I need to know what type of tolerances there should be for bronze bushings on the crankshaft mains of which there are 4. These are lubricated by grease cups between each cylinder. I am concerned about loosing crankcase compression between cylinders as well as the front and rear mains. I don't know if I need to replace them or not. They seem sloppy to me. Please help. Gary |

I forgot to ask if there are sources for these early bushings of brass or bronze? |

It depends on the crank size, but for a greased bearing.002" should be close. If they are sloppy it will affect performance. Companies like McMaster Carr and Motion Ind stock standard bearings, odd sizes will have to be custom fit. If you can install a lip seal it helps. |
