Any help greatly appreciated...
We just bought our first sailboat (a great little Bayfield 25), had it thoroughly surveyed and looked over with no red flags, were super excited to learn on it. Unfortunately the tranmission/mechanical clutch gave out on us first trip out.
It's slipping in forward, fine in reverse. Thinking it's the forward clutch friction plate - the dealer we took it to said they no longer make parts for these engines!
Suggestions on diy or where to find parts/if anyone has spares would be amazing...we just want to get her out! |

I suggest that you start contacting marinas in your area and with some luck, you might find a a fried engine with a good transmission.
You might also find some boat owners with the same engine and get their views.
Sounds like a good winter works project

Did anyone try adjusting it? It may have some life left. Remove the cover and move shift forward to neutral and back, watch what's going on. Forward should be squeezing a pack of clutches, there's usually a screw adjustment to make it squeeze tighter. If thew clutch disc aren't burnt you may be able to make it go again. If you can't get it to tighten up you will need to find clutch plates. |
