I am a 78 year old woodenboat builder....mostly RC models and a few full size boats. I have a set of plans for John L. Hacker's "Slippery" stepped hydroplane which was designed for the Lycoming 4 cylinder marine engine. Can anyone give me the weight, horsepower, and torque rating for this engine?....many thanks!....John Campbell (my cell no. is 254-493-8493 |

John, The Model 4-80 is designated as UACS It's suited for the 135 CI Hydroplane class. Rated 80 HP at 4600 RPM. It weighs 405 pounds. THe Model 4-58 is designated as UAE and displaces 134 CI, It weighs 460 pounds. THe UAE rated at 58 HP at 3400 RPM. THe model UAB is rated at 40 HP. Sorry I don't have the displacement on the UAB but I'd approximate it similar to the UAE but turning at slower RPM> The UAB is the same engine the smaller ( 16-18 ft) Dodge Boats ran in the 1930's- fairly common survivor .I have no torque ratings on these engines Where can I see plans for Hackers "Slippery"? Jim Barrys's book "Hacker" has a picture of Hacker's 135 CI class "Riptide". |

Bruce, I can no longer find the site for the Slippery plans .....I think there's a broken link involved....but I will email you the Zip file for them if you'll send me an email at [email protected] Also....somebody posted a reply to my initial thread on this forum about there being a 40 and 45 hp Lycoming back in 1920's....that reply is gone....would like to have it back.... |
