I was 6 years old then Richard, but I spent a lot of time in the shop with him. Always enjoyed motors. Thanks for posting. |

Interesting; so the leverage of load pushes down on the shafts when lifting forward? Surprising that a load could be swung out to nearly 90� without tipping it over, but it looks like the horse & shafts are on the "outboard" corner of the cart, so that way the horse/donkey/mule acts as ballast when lifting sideways? |

Robert, this is a very early design, they evolved, later were 4 wheel carts, last design had pneumatic tires. If you look at the one in front of the building it has an "outrigger wheel". The one in the parts list below has a concrete counterweight that swung with the boom, #41 in the picture. Richard, I have one of these in parts, 4 steel wheels, needs to be blasted and assembled.
