I have a 1972 Farymann one cylinder k30 that I put in a small launch. My wife and I have been having lots of fun with it this summer. It runs well but has had trouble starting if the battery is not well charged. We made a tent for it so we can sleep on it. A couple of days ago we took it out for an overnight on the Connecticut River, across from Springfield Vt. Had a great night on it, but it wouldn't start in the AM. Temps got down to about 45 that night. Motor turned over but maybe not fast enough. I'm looking for cold weather starting ideas: 1- could I run kerosene during cold weather and would that help. 2-how about hanging a kerosene lantern in the engine box 3-is it possible to add a glow plug to the engine 4- an insulated battery box to keep it warmer 5-could i warm something up with a propane torch 6-starting fluid Any thoughts are appreciated - we love going out in the fall |

I had similar problems with my Farymann 1 cl. I pulled the injector and dropped it off at a diesel shop who services the local Amish community. They use a lot of older tech engine everyday and it a pretty standard Bosch unit. They rebuilt it,$85.00 and it starts like a champ. Maybe something to try, it worked for me. H. |

H, Thanks for the info. Did this help in cold weather too? I'm sure there's a diesel shop around here, but just in case, what's the name of the shop you used. Keith |
