Getting ready to reassemble my YT1. I did a search and found replies that said "whatever you have" and can use things like cereal boxes, paper, etc. Also there is store bought material which is impregnated fiber something, and I may have some. Obviously I am talking about things like crankcase halves, and such not head gaskets or other special situations. But I have a couple question. Can I simply use gasket maker such as "Hondabond" and no paper at all in these places? If I must use paper or gasket material, what kind of thickness? Just try to replicate the thickness of what came out? Thanks for any advice. |

Glad you are at the rebuild stage, hope we get to watch the progress. A set of cheap hole punches to make bolt holes in gaskets is really a great investment as are a set of transfer punches to locate the holes. Years ago I bought a jobber package of gasket materials and these two sets of tools makes putting small engines back together alot of fun. might cost 30 bucks, pays for it's self in short order. Are you using fresh rings? |

I don't use any gaskets any more. I use a product from Mazda that is comparable to Yamabond/Hondabond. The only critical one is the front/timing cover. Dry fit it to make sure you have at least a few thousandths of crankshaft end play. This being the case you may need a gasket here to get end play. I did have a gasket where the breather bolts to the crankcase because "if I remember correctly" the crankcase wasn't very flat. However this may have been because I was installing it with the reverse gear in place. Have fun with it Ernie |

thanks ern, perfect. you answered the gasket thickness question and for the reason I was asking. I will check that one issue and use hondabond everywhere else and there if I can... |

The intake and carb usually get a gasket as they get removed once in a while And of course the head and exhaust manifold. |
