Hi Gents.
This is my first post here.
I have a 34' timber cruiser launched in '69. She has a 40hp Fordson diesel coupled to a Clae marine gearbox, all fully rebuilt around 5 years back with little use since. I have a problem and hope someone can help.
I can't engage forward from the selector shaft.
Neutral seems ok but I have an amount of forward rotation at the propshaft with neutral selected.
Reverse selects quite happily.
I can engage forward with the inspection cover removed with the aid of a lever holding pressure against the internal selector. It appears to not quite have enough travel to overcome the point of balance to throw into forward.
It seems like the neutral position of the gearbox is out of adjustment internally. There are adjustments on the port side of the box but I'm not sure what they do.
Does anyone have knowledge, info or drawings of the Clae gearbox?
I have internal & external pics of the box if they are of use.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers, Smokey.

I'm sure someone'll 'elp soon.
Probably just adjustment.
Definitely put up pics in the meantime, as this will probably make it apparent to the non CLAE engineer to see what to do.

Here's a little info I found on another site re the Clae gear I have. I hope the author doesn't mind me sharing it.

"Marine conversion of industrial engines and their service and maintenance was also undertaken by Clae. For example, four-cylinder Fordson Major diesel engines made by the Ford Motor Co, were "marineised" by adding the Clae reduction gear drive and Clae "Bulldog" reverse gear to develop what they called the Claemarine F.D. 36 Diesel marine engine which was suitable for ocean-going vessels."
