This engine found me today. I had seen pictures of it several years ago, didn't know they existed. The guy I bought it from found it in an old cypress boat at a sawmill site in the swamp. It's an open crank 4 stroke, big engine. Atmospheric intake, brass rod, had 5 oilers on it. 20" flywheel, 30" high, 9" across the head.

That is awesome. I was just wondering about what happened to that engine the other day. Glad he found the right home for it. Can't wait to hear it pop!

A hundred and three year old southern Louisiana
Marine Engine couldn't find a better home !
Confident that smoke will exit the exhaust soon !
Wonder if a sheet steel type of pan may have covered the bottom end ?
J B great find and an exciting old Marine engine,
hope we can find some info about its heritage ?

Richard, I wondered about a pan, no signs of screw holes yet, something may show after clean up. |

Guessing 1913 is the date Keith.
I took a few more pictures, removed the head today, the exhaust valve was closed, hoped for the best, expected the worst, got what I expected. Heated the nuts, they came off easy, head was easy to lift also. The bolts holding the cylinder to the base were easy to break loose. Sad thing is I have to move it to the back burner, priorities.

If that engine had been sunk in one of the lakes in Muskoka , it would have been like swiss cheese by now. The water is acidic because of all the oak and pine trees.
The good part is that we do not have zebra mussels.
I second all the notes about gettin' 'er goin'
Ahhh - priorities . . . ain't it always that way when you got a neat project ahead of you

JB that is one neat engine and you are one lucky guy. Looks like a slight bit of rust, should be a easy one to restore next winter.

Thanks for taking the time to research this Richard. It seems like the company was fairly stable if they went through the trouble of casting tags. I have to read Email at the shop, cable is out at the house, one of the tornados passed about 4 miles from me, a lot of devastation. It was an F3, much stronger than we usually see. |
