My 80+ father has this engine in a storage building, looking for way to get value. Don't know what it came out of and don't currently have any pics. Any help would be appreciated. You can email tekman1966 @gmail.com Thanks |

I took some pics but are to big to upload. Serial # is p1951. I'm not computer savvy so will try and get my son to help with this. |

Thanks Ernie and Jim for your help. I spoke with my father, any chance you might be able to guide me where to post "for sale"? Engine is located in northern Ohio. He did tell me that it has a Packard block and 5 main bearings and Trans is on it. Before putting it in storage he did run it. Thanks again for all your help. Thanks, Tracy |

Here are Tracy's Pics
This appears to be a Rambler V8. I know one version was 327 cu in. They were really nice running engines in marine trim.
I don't remember but there may have been some smaller ones that used a different Rambler V8. However they were all just about identical in looks.
These engines are NOT the AMC V8s that were 290 cu in 304 cu in and a couple of bigger sizes.

This engine is "FOR SALE" I believe it is a 1960 Packard block 5 main bearings Trans attached fly wheel has been turned not stuck or frozen 2 exhaust tubes motor mounts don't think it has been in salt water engine is located in suburban Toledo Ohio asking $550 you may contact me thru email at [email protected] |

The graymarine fireball models were V8-238, V8-225, V8-188, V8-170 and the V8-135,
I have all the factory svc manuals and specs, part numbers et al for these engines.
The 238, 225 and 188 were built on the AMC 327 cu in block
The 170 and 135 were 250 cu in.
They also made what the called the compact V8-178 (dual carb) and the compact V8-138 (single carb) both 250 cu in. |

Since yours is a single Carter YF carb and the tag says 138 my guess is that it is a compact 138 which from the marineengine dot com info is a 250 cu in Rambler engine that was marinized by Gray. |

Thanks for posting that.
I never realized that there were so many of them. I used to take care of and rebuilt several back in the 70s. All were 327s in varying HP.
They were easy to work on and ran real good. I would love to have one in a boat.

Hey thanks guys. I'm learning a lot from you and that would make my father happy. He's been into boats since he was a kid racing in Lake Erie. I never got into them and just trying to help him part with a lot of boat "stuff" |
