Here's some homework for Richard D. Bob acquired this Mullins from Ernie, it looks identical to a Roberts, has a timer instead of distributor. Do ou have any info on them?

W.H. Mullins Co. was established in 1872, started making stamped Steel boats in 1906, they never mfgd engines but bought from several makers over the Years.
this direct from data base info.
Was a metal stamping Company and made several different products, Architectural metal-work, Decoration and ornamental stampings, Manufactured Car Bodies, Franklin- Peerless , they made pressed steel boats Known for their underwater exhausts, and contracted with different engine mfgrs over the years for their engines, they did put Mullins tags on many engines !WWII made fueltanks for P51 Mustang.

J.B. Not enough Mullins tags on file to draw
any conclusions but Its very probable that the
model number on Bobs engine 1910 is the year of manufacture ?

Wayne: The Portland Roberts photo above has I believe answered a twenty year old mystery. E.W.Roberts claimed by 1905 to have designed many engines for many different manufacturers and I have discovered several but this early pedestal based,cylinder flanged to crankcase, rear exhaust and unique waterpump engine I have seen in many different styles with same basic castings and flywheel. An example would be the Cady Canoe Engine.
Now with a Roberts tagged example ( never knew a Roberts tag on any engine he didn't design and manufacture) I believe that the many engines like this were from E.W.'s basic design !

I tried to focus in on the tag using PhotoShop.
The tag appears to say Model O, 3 HP.
Neat tag! Wish I'd taken a better pic of it.

E.W.Roberts established his own company in 1906 in Clyde Ohio, in 1908 he had moved to Sandusky.
This one page flyer is dated 1909 and shows the smaller Model H and the 3 Hp Model O engines.
The illustration is the same engine but now has the later style crankcase with mounts even with crankshaft, the engine must be 1908!
