Dick, Wishing you a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" and thanking you again for all your help with this great pastime of collecting and restoring Old Marine engines. Your pioneering spirit, knowlege and experience that you have shared through your work with The Heritage Engine Collection, museums, writtings, lectures, engine shows,on this web site or when someone just asks, has enrichened us all and is immeasureable. It's a very special engine show when Dick and Barbara Day and some of the Palmers are there ! Hope that rare old Palmer(the one you don't have yet comes your way soon!) Richard Durgee |

Thank you very much for your kind thoughts. I know you mean them from the heart. I look back 40 years when nobody collected marine engines. It was great as I could swap one farm engine for two or even three marine engines. Not that way anymore but it has been fun. I still have the first one I collected in 1935. It survived because I put it up high in the barn and my father who never liked machinery couldn't throw it in the WWII scrap drive. It came from the daughter of the man that started AMEXCO. I think marine engines are a lot more fun than farm engines. The people that come with them are real pioneers and dedicated to restoring often difficult relics. That is 99% of the fun. I guess we fill a unique nitch of the nuts in this world. I believe if you cannot look over your shoulder and see where we came from how do you know we are going ahead? Andrew has created an incredible resouce that will be of use to collectors a 100 years from now. Thank you Andrew. |
