I have a 1974 Columbia 30 sailboat with the Plamer 60. It, along with the entire boat boat, was rebuilt about 3 years ago. She is new to me this season. The engine currently shows about 210 hrs on it. I am getting grey/white (with a hint of blue maybe)smoke from the exhaust, especially at startup about or when I run the engine up to speed (2000 rpm) from idle. I haven't noticed any change in oil or coolant level. I thought it might be that it is due for a valve lash adjustment. Any thoughts? |

I doubt valve lash would cause smoke, maybe worn valve guides. a 4 stroke most likely rings. I would also check your hour meter. If the engine sat for a long period of time you sometimes have rust develope in the cylinder that promote premature ring, cylinder and piston wear. tell us how it has been used |

It has been used regularly for the last three or four years from March through November oil change every 100 hours or end of season. Starts quick, runs smooth. Burns about 7/10 gph @2000 rpm which gives me around 5kts depending on wind/current. Clean as a whistle, purrs like sewing machine. I just started noticing a little smoke at start up and then when I go from idle to 3/4 full. |

I would just keep an eye on it. It could run for years like this. |
