Hi from Australia. I'm trying to get as much info as I can on a Frisco Standard (Standard Gas Engine Co.) 40 hp oil engine installed on an Australian auxiliary schooner in 1916. The engine is long gone. So far the best thing I have found is this image elsewhere on oldmarineengine.com. It's a very low-resolution image though. I'm wondering where the image is from, and whether it is possible to get a higher resolution version. Also: - has anyone heard of or seen one of these 40hp Frisco Standard engines still in existence? - are there any old catalog photos of one? - are there any old oil-engine technical books that cover this engine, or engine series? I'm hoping to get enough info about the engine that I can draw it in 3D CAD, and add it to the 3D CAD model of the ship itself (the ship does still exist). It's part of a book project. I'd appreciate any info - I can't think of too many other places in the world where people would know this sort of thing. Cheers, Ian. |

Ian, I think I posted that image and I'm pretty sure I have that catalog. I don't recall how good the catalog is and if it's original or a copy. I would be happy to take a look unless someone else jumps in with some higher resolution images for you. Sounds like a neat project. Regards, Andrew |

Thanks Andrew, that would be great. All information greatly appreciated! Also, at some point, I have to try and estimate the weight of the engine (for analysing the hydrostatics of the vessel as she was after the engine was fitted) ... did the catalog have any info on engine weights? Ian |

Andrew, if you are digging out that old catalog - which I have worked out is the "Pacific Net and Twine Co. General Catalog No. 5.", dating from c.1918 - would it be possible to scan the whole section spanning pages 1305-1318, all of which seems to give a lot of detail about Frisco Standard marine engines? Thanks, Ian |

Andrew, I have narrowed it down to mainly needing pages 1316 (parts diagram for the 4-cylinder engine) and pages 1317-18 (part nr/name list). If nothing else, those are the key pages. I would be grateful if you could look that out. Cheers, Ian |
