Hi All, have a bit of a challenge for you all. We discovered a shipwreck on the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia and can not identify it. We thought if we could identify the engines and perhaps a year of manufacture this would help us. This is a twin engined timber vessel about 43 m (140 feet) long. The engines seem to be joined with a cross bar. Thanks in advance for your help. cheers Pete |

It appears to be a 4-51 Detroit GM Diesel Marine Engine, built in the Early 1950's. I have one listed on eBay, listing # 381228883898....So you can compare the pictures,...especially where the Heat Exchanger is mounted at the rear of the engine and the Marine Gear Box and Exhaust on the front of the engine. |
