This year is the 100th anniversary of the patent on the DisPro Device.

dispro1

The DisPro will be the feature of the ACBS Toronto Chapter Boat Show in Gravenhurst Ontario, with an expected attendance of about 100 boats.

Later, on August 8, 2015, in Port Carling , the site of the original DisPro factory, there will be a day of celebrations likely involving some adult beverages, af ew well chosen words for boats that don't behave, and fun all around.
You can imagine what a small town might look like after a bunch of Dippy Owners converge on it.

Makes you wonder if there would be a market for a boat using the same principle today, perhaps with electric propulsion even?

Some of the guys actually have built the forms and have created electric drives for them, but alas, most folks was speed and convenience.
The biggest hurdle was the casting for the body of the device - it's big and thin.
Slow wooden boats are a tough sell I guess (except in Louisiana)
For myself, I usually take off the engine cover so I can see the engine running as well as hearing the pop pop pop plus enjoy the aroma of old oil mixed with a soupcon of bilge debris and droppings.
Ahhhh - the smell of spring in the water.
