Richard is the intake manifold that converts the two inlet check valves to a single carburetor original or is that something someone made up to work with one carburetor? Seems to me I have seen a picture of the same model Eagles with twin Schebler model Ds. |

Dick I looked at the manifold thinking it was maybe the only non original part on it, the carb is a Shebler. The owner said he bought a farm in New england 35-40 yrs ago and this eng was in the barn, a friend helped him reassemble some parts that were on a shelf and start it, it hasn't run in a few years now. The igniter mechanism is a real piece of work, seems very well made. Owner not sure of year made, anyone have any early Eagle catalogs ?? . |

The catalog says it's a model 2D Heavy Duty engine. It appears that they only made one two cylinder "D" engine. It was 12HP at 450RPM. Bore 5" stroke 6", two port, weight 555lbs (says they could be M&M or jump spark) The verbiage by the picture states "...we are now fitting this model with independent intake manifolds with seperate carburetors to permit independent adjustment on each cylinder...." The complete price was $230. I notice the individual ignition setups were over twice as expensive for jump spark as M&B ($11.50 vs $5.00) A great old timer!! |

Tom That's great info, and dates this one pretty close, I noted the split, bolted flywheel hub on the engine, the illustration seems to have standard keyed hub. I found a 1905 ad for Eagle engs by the Eagle bicycle Co. of torrington, ct. A 1906 Eagle ad is by the Progressive Mfg Co. and they had two addresses Torrington, Ct and Newark, N.J. and the last ad I find is 1914 and Eagle Eng is by the Standard Co. Torrington. Havent found any ads after 1914 as yet ?? Thanks |

Both the 1913 & 1916 copies have the covers and both say it's "The Standard Co" "Marine Engine Department" Torrington, CT. No exact street address listed. The `1913 catalog shows one cut of a stationary model one cylinder 4 cycle (both valves mechanically operated)can't see a spark plug and it seems to have a M&B or possibly a HV impulse magneto operating from a push rod. Governor weights are visible. Could be just a re-badge because I see no reference to 4 cycle inboards. |
