Interesting
My Dad had a very similar boat built by Franklin G. Post in Mystic, CT. I still have the builders tag.
I can remember spending many trips on the cabin top and or in the dingy towed behind. Lots of fun.
The pics below are just about identical to my Dad's boat.
Pics are from the net and I have no idea who or when. However that is a 1964 Rambler in the 3rd pic.

wow, how much hp does it take to push that boat. i'd like to get one with similar design only lighter weight.
anyone know the answers to both / either of these questions?

Info on my Dad's boat
Her name was Juanita. I have the name board brass registration numbers from the bow and the builders plate.
She was 26ft long by 8ft beam and about 3ft draft with a Gray Model 620 60 hp and a 2 to 1 gear that easily pushed her at hull speed. About 7 knots turning about 1500 RPM. If you pushed it hard all you got was the bow in the air and a huge wake.
I got lucky and found pics from the early 1960s
Dad at the helm, Mom sitting aft and my cousin and I on the cabin top. Taken headed west in Long Island Sound off Waterford, CT
Hauled at Howard's Boat Yard Niantic, CT
That is another Post boat on the port side.
Hauled at Essex, CT for Dad to inspect her before purchase.

By the 50s and 60s all the marine railways in eastern, CT were electric. To begin with they had either Lathrop or Automatic engines. I can still remember the sound of the gears of the winch when a boat was being hauled. |

I can see why the carton boat reminded you of those good old days and your dads boat, they look almost identical.
Cool old boats in the yard ! Come to think of it I don't think I've ever seen an old boat yard that I didn't like !
Andrew, That has to be the same Maurice Day, I couldn't find any of his cartoon work but his Graphite Sketchings are very similar and very busy like the cartoon ! Glad you liked it !
