Hi All, I will be installing a 27 in my boat this spring. I found one not far from my home that appeared to be in good condition. After the tear down, I found that it had thrown a rod (in the past), breaking the case, and I see damage to the "tray that the rod splashes in". The back of the tray has two pieces that could break off. Both about 1/2x1/2. I thought I would take the tray off and braze it, and then I thought I should check with the group to see if one could be found. I'm not too worried about the case. The case repair looks to be a good one. |

The crankcase is from a Wisconson engine. Not sure what model but if you have a good small engine shop in your area they should be able to assist. DO NOT even mention Palmer as they won't have any idea what you want. If you go through the Palmer posts on this site there is reference in one of then as to which Wisconson block Palmer used. Hope this helps Ernie |

Ernie, I know that the engine is mostly an AEH engine. I did not know if the bottom casting, with the oil pump, and the tray might just be a Palmer casting. Do all AEH engines have this pump/tray? It looks like a special way to keep engine oil splashing when riding up or down step waves. |

The only Palmer parts were the modified crankshaft, flywheel, water pump bracket and water pump drive shaft in the block, and the cylinder and head. The piston is not AEH. I think it is one size bigger, what ever that was. The crankshaft modification was to shorten the flywheel end to get the flywheel closer to the block since there was no blower housing and the flywheel was smaller with no cooling fins. To my knowledge all the Wisconsin engines in this series had the same oil pump and connecting rod lube tray. Hope this helps Ernie |
