Dick Day and I picked up a bunch of NOS ZR1 parts last fall. Here is the start of what should be a very nice engine. The engine will eventually be gray. The black is POR. POR is Paint Over Rust paint. After wire wheeling to get off all the loose rust then just paint. I painted the inside and had more paint so I did the outside as well.

More Pics The entire inside of this was nasty flaky rust. I stuck the shop vac in the slot by the round hole to collect all the dust while I was cleaning it with a wire wheel. The divider is to separate the oil sump from the connecting rod lube sump. The area to the right is the connecting rod lube sump and the oil sump to the left with pump to be installed in the round hole is the oil sump

Still cleaning and inspecting parts. I hope to have the crankcase assembled in the next week or so. What I don't have NOS will be parts with just about zero wear. Hopefully when I am done with this engine it will find its way into a boat. There will most likely be a 2nd engine that will be good as a show engine. However this being said from the wear I have seen on some parts out of engines that were runnable when taken apart it will be better than a lot of them that were used on a daily basis. |

Hi all, I'm new to this group. I have a PW27 that seams to be in running condition. My question is, should I pull the head to get a look at the water passages? water flows freely into the cyl, and out of the head. But, the drain port on the bottom of the cyl. is pluged. This tells me the bottom water jacket has some gunk in it. Is this going to cause me a overheating problem? This engine will be going into a sailboat on the Bay. What about cooling with salt water and flushing with freshwater after each use? |

You can do that Head gaskets are a available from gasketstogo.com Salt water cooling in any form is always eventually fatal. This being said what you propose is a good idea if you must salt water cool it. This will extend the life of the engine for a long time. |

Hello Palmer ZR fans. I am in touch with a new owner of what appears to me to be a 1931 Palmer ZR-2! He is not a computer user, so I am writing this in his behalf, and posting photos for him. His engine is reported near-complete as far as parts are considered, but he needs some rod end caps or rods with end caps. Also any paperwork, brochures, manuels, etc like the one Ernie posted for the ZR-1 would be helpful. Thanks in advance for any info or suggestions. David |
