Saturday, Bruce Hall, my friend Russ Pokorny and I went down to Accord, NY to get a ride in 1896 Elco electric launch. 118 years old, the boat was found in a barn filled with fire wood and was about to be burned along with the wood. Alan Bendelius rescued the boat and restored it. Then he created a large pond and built a lovely boat house to keep it in. The mammoth old 2HP DC motor sits in the stern and quietly moves it along. Its 30 ft. OAL. There are probably only five or six of them left.

To restore a boat is one thing, to build a pond to float it is quite another! Thank you for sharing the story and photos.

Photos and details of the batteries and motor would be interesting! ;-)

Well there were some complications regarding the photo taking equipment.

Russ and I flew down in his Cessna 152 since there is a very good airport nearby. But I stupidly left my camera in the aircraft and we could not get back to it because the gate has a digital lock and we, at that time, did not know the combination.

When we got to the boathouse, Russ was designated the chief photo guy but he inadvertently dropped his iPhone into the 4 ft. of very murky water which you can see in the last photo. We tried to dredge but the bottom is deep muck. We then had only Bruce's camera and did not, unfortunately, take as many pictures as we should have since we were so enjoying the very quiet ride around the lake.

The lake is part of a 450 acre parcel that is complete with a very nice trout stream, fed by the lake along with lots of forest and some 1690's era barns and houses.

And when we got ready to leave, we were given the digits of the digital lock so we could get to our aircraft. :^|
