I have two questions about the prop shaft on my Lyman with a Gray Marine engine. I am replacing the Cutlass bearing and there is another bearing inside the hull with what appears to be some sort of seal inside the nut shape cap. What is the name of this piece, and where can I find the seal to replace the old one?
Also, is there a seal on the rudder shaft as well?
I have enclosed some pictures of the shaft with the part in question.
I would appreciate any information.  |

It's a shaft log seal. It has a waxed rope in it that gets compressed till it drips slightly. Same with the rudder port only no drip. it is available at www.classicboatconnection.com |

Suggest using teflon as it is much more shaft friendly.
Various sizes available click here for 1/4 inch
Also available at Graingers and lots of other places.

Does the rudder bearing use the same size flax rope (1/4") or is it bigger? |
