Just in case someone else is going through what I have over the past 3 weeks trying to track down a replacement dynastarter for the Volvo MD6a etc I wanted to make sure you know that a near perfect direct replacement can be had for less than US$300 from Oulet Ricambi in Milan. Turns out that the starter generator on the PIAGGIO APE TM MP 501 601 602 703 is the same as the Bosch. One hole on the mount needed to be drilled out less than 1mm!

I also found a direct replacement from HC Cargo for only US$179 + freight.
Better than the US$700 some people want to charge for new old stock etc |

You can get a modern regulator for the old one if it is the regulator that is at fault.
Google dynastart regulator, loads available.
