Excited to attend, this will be my first year going to the show and I am new to antique marine engines. Are engines typically for sale at the Mystic show in a swap/sell area?

Morgan Pics
She now has mechanical spaces.
To take her sailing she needed:
Fire Control
Electrical
Navigation
Emergency lighting
And even a charging table for the crews electronics.
And lots more

To make all this happen she has a diesel generator, electric fire pumps, diesel back up fire pump and tons of electrical/electronics.

It sure was neat to walk her decks and think this now a real sailing ship again. Not just stuffed and mounted as a dispaly piece as she was for many years.

It is amazing how big she looked sitting in the shipyard and how tiny she is below decks.

Go to youtube and search Chharles W Morgan for some really incredible video.

Photos are appreciated !

This air cooled engine I can't quite read the
information sheet ??

airm

J.B your display really looks great-- is that a new trailer ?

As for the C.W.Morgan- what a masterful piece of work, all of those sails and running gear reminds us that seamen and sailors had to be a different breed in those days !!

Good Stuff.

Ernie

I have searched all of my info and cannot find any reference to Belle Isle making an air cooled marine engine ? Wondering if it has a tag or name in the castings etc ??

Keith

I can just imagine the people looking at your trailer and the array of beautiful engines as you drive across the country !

Richard,
It has a tag and the castings are identical to the water cooled entgine.
That is the bottom of the crankcase obviously the rest are different.

Ernie thanks for posting the show pictures, we all know that it takes time and you give us your time and I'm thankful to you for that. Richard yes, we got a lot of looks on our 3700+ mile trip from Louisiana. We also put a lot of time in to get our stuff ready. We got a new trailer and filled it with Lockwood-Ash, Motorgo and Nadler engines ( Lockwood-Ash Family), we also had Lockwood-Ash blue-prints, Lockwood-Ash and Motorgo manuels. We had 4 men to run the engines in 3 shows in 10 days. and best of all, we had J.B. that we let everybody borrow for a while. Thank all of you for a good, very good time, kf

As to how many mfgrs made air cooled marine engines there is no definitive answer, none of the major museums or others interested in marine engine history have ever endeavored to compile that information as far as I know !
In the mid 1980's I started a hand written list of marine engine mfgrs and in the 2000's entered into a Data base and its been a work in progress that continues.
Originally the search was for mfgrs names the next step was to try to get some sort of photo to match the names in the list, existing engs with tags or casted names or catalogs and ads in
boating and many other publications, some names were entered into the U.S patents and that shed a little more light. the next step came when trying to identify unknown engines and that was to enter physical traits or uniquenesses that was entered into a description of the engines so that a SEARCH would bring them up ! the descriptions were many and a common wordage had to be settled on to describe the differences exactly, with this attempt I had to go back over all engines many times to get them uniform this has been time consuming into thousands of hours over the years and still needs more work.
Today the little number at the bottom of the Data base says 1998 that's the number of listings and when I put "Air cooled" in the SEARCH 20 listings appear. I had never actually searched the topic before so I went though each and authenticated them as legitimate mfgrs, by the way
number 20 was just added two days ago with Ernies
help and the ID of the Belle Isle eng in the above posts !
So a quick asking of this question on line comes with an answer that definitely didn't come quickly and is probably very close to but not exact.
