I've just bought a new (old) boat with a '76 SABB Model H , 10hp diesel. Are there any sarcifical anodes in the motor itself? |

Hi O Roughy, I have a manual with my '72 model H and it doesn't say anything about a sacrificial anode. I don't think Sabb fitted any. Are you certain your engine delivers 10 HP? Manual promises 6 HP at 1500 rpm or 8 HP at 2000 rpm. Model G does 10 HP because of it's longer stroke. |

Hi. I'm a bit late picking up on this thread, but my 1977 Sabb 2H, the twin cylinder version of yours, certainly does have an anode, and I have to change it every couple of years too. Here's the pic from my user manual showing where it is(Item 1), which is at the fly wheel end of the silencer. Hope this helps. Cheers Peter |

My Sabb model H has a Bosch dyno which has cracked the cast iron mount to the engine. I am trying to repair it although that isn't looking very positive at this stage. Does anyone know where I might find a suitable alternative? |

@Jim You could try Jachtservice Amsterdam. http://www.jachtservice.nl/pages/welkom.html [email protected] I've recently ordered there a complete gasketset and a PLG for my Sabb H1. They have quite some knowledge about Sabb. Rene |

How do you disengage the clutch on a 1978 Sabb one cylinder diesel. We have remote controls on one side two controls together on the other side of the boat one. |

You need an operator manual. I am in Prague right now. I think I have on my hard drive, write me after 06/15 [email protected] In the meantime, look for local sources for Alaska Yellow cedar ( my deck) and Stika spruce- ( all the spars). Looking for small quantities- UPS restrictions. ( 70 pounds) Love your Murray marine Hardware- they just fixed a iron hound problem with a SS split ring. |

I have a single cylinder SABB diesel It has a pronounced "THUMP"when running Turning the engine over with the starter motor and in the decompression mode there is no "THUMP" How much of a "THUMP" is normal in these engines. I have disassembled this engine and replaced the crankshaft main bearings, the wristspin, connecting rod bearing are sound, with no play .the ejector is rebuilt the injector pump timing is spot on.the valve setting and timing is spot on. The counterweights timing is spot on. I took the flywheel to a Machine shop and had it balanced. The motor mounts are new. I have seen these engines running on U-TUBE and they seem to be running mutch smoother-no thump or vibration. Maybe I'm expecting too much!? Any help or additional ideas greatly appreciated Thanks. How to measure Engine vibration: We need some real engine mechanics to weigh in on this subject. Vibration in helicopters is employment field by itself. Maybe the method people use to measure prop shaft straightness could be adapted to measuring excessive engine vibration. Took my Sabb 2H out last year to overhaul it and got lucky on the installation. No difference in movement and the prop flange lined up under .003. |

New problem Saab 8HP single diesel. Starts and idles OK under load. Accelerate and engine slows and puts out black sooty smoke. Engine + shaft turn freely by hand. Injector just serviced. Intake clear. Any ideas? |

Black sooty smoke usually means too much load. Does it run OK under medium load? |

Not sure as falters and smokes on throttle above idle. Sort of opposite problems. Older install with same prop, shaftline, etc. Used to be OK. |

I have a 2 H with 31 years of experience. Never had any problems if you do the maintenance. TLC works on this engine as with my British Seagull. You need to learn how to listen to the engine- You need to develop some Karma with it., ( It probably help to have a spare engine to take parts off of it. ) |
