I have a partially reconditioned Kelvin marine diesel for sale and am looking for advice about where to advertise. During a recent recondition I found cracks in the block which rendered the engine unserviceable - however I am left with the remaining components, many of which have been reconditioned including the heads, liners, pistons and rings, small end, injector pump and injectors, starter motor, alternator etc - along with almost a complete set of gaskets, seals and some bearings. Also all parts cleaned and some repainted with original Kelvin green (or close to it). I am aware that these parts are becoming increasingly more difficult to obtain so I'm looking for a good home - apart from the block (which could potentially be repaired) these engine parts could again provide long hours of reliable service - phone 021 877 529 |

Hi - Which Kelvin please? K, J? Some blocks and heads were still available from UK and India. |

Cracked block & head repair used to the specialty of quite a few companies, no doubt in the UK as well. Is that an option you have rejected? |

eBay seems to be a popular place to sell such. Unfortunately the later Kelvin P series suffered badly from direct raw water cooling. I believe lips on the heads securing water passage sealing rings corroded badly. Your engine with good heads may be a good source of spares for someone since 950 P4's were built between 1957 and 1976. |

Thanks for the tip about eBay - I haven't used that before This particular engine used fresh water for engine cooling with a raw water heat exchanger and keel cooling so with the anti freeze regularly changed there was virtually no internal corrosion |

Sorry Robert missed your post about the block and head repairs in the UK - yeah pretty abandoned the repair option on the basis that you may be able to deal with the cracks you can see - it's the ones you can't see, and the underlying cause of the cracks that were more of a concern. The boatbwas significantly underpowered anyway so a great excuse to repower - going from 20hp to 75hp so it will definitely be a different vessel |

I seek a Kelvin P 4 R gearbox, or internal components ---- my gearbox has severe toothache which has wrecked any chance of boating. |

Alex i may be able to help with the gearbox parts providing the parts you need are for the box that's attached to the engine casing and not the add on reduction box that's attached to the shaft . One other problem maybe that i am in the UK so postage to you could be a fortune ? Steve |

Steve, I thought I had replied to you, with thanks, but see no trace of it, so go again. My gearbox is a 1:1 direct drive and has teeth broken on the top shaft and the reverse cone is split. If it possible to cost spare bits and freight by surface mail, I'd be grateful. Engine is being removed, so time not a huge factor. Sorry if this is posted a second time. I'm not too hot at all this. Regards, Alex, Kaikohe, Northland, NZ |

Steve, I had not completed the first message, which is why it did not get sent. My Kelvin is a P4, well worth keeping alive as I've done the engine and goes well. The gearbox problem was caused by selecting reverse, with a jambed prop shaft. Nasty - NASTY noises followed!!!!!Regards, Alex. |
