These patterns are just about finished, the wood was glued together with newspaper between them, they should split to place them on a board. The straps were pretty easy so I made two of them, reduces the cost. The pumps will fit a 2 1/2 hp Lockwood Ash, the straps fit the 2 1/2 and 6. |

The patterns look great! Can't wait to see the finished castings. The paper trick works wonders. I use the brown wrapping paper which works very well. |

* J.B. Pieces look Great ! Do they have to be oversized to compensate for shrinkage when cast ? * |

Thanks. I figure one percent shrinkage for cast iron, two percent for brass. Cast iron comes to about 1/8" per foot, so on small patterns like this it's not critical, when using old parts for a pattern you build up the machined areas, this helps to compensate. |

Bob, what you're looking at is a "core stick", a positive of the core. It's made of dowel rods. The core box is formed by pouring Replicate, a two part plastic, around it, one half at a time. It has to be coated with a release agent and removed at the correct time or it's in there forever. The foundry will make the cores using this box. |

I got the sample runs back from the foundry, they look good, cores are all well centered, after machining I'll place an order. The pump fits a 2-1/2hp Lockwood Ash-Nadler, the straps fit 2-1/2 &6hp. The bearing shells are experimental, going to machine and Babbitt line them for the 8hp engines, We've had some bearing failures on these engines, trying to make something more durable.

Wasn't the original a belt drive? Or thermo siphon?

If anyone needs pumps, straps, or eccentrics let me know, would like to have them all cast at once. Bob, the material is leaded bronze, excellent machine ability, good color. Bill, that pump is an add on, L-A always yused a piston pump. |

J.B. thanks to you, some day there will be a number of running engines up near 10,000 lakes. I certainly need at least two pumps, maybe more. |
