My sherwood E20 is weeping (about a drip per 3 seconds) and I would like to catch it early. Is the drip due to a seal that can be easily acquired and replaced or is it something more complicated. I have replaced the ramp and the impeller however I have never taken the shaft out of the pump.
Thanks for any help

Hello Robert,

The weeping, if it is coming from the middle of the pump, is a sign that the shaft seal is not working right. If you are lucky, it is just the rubber in the seal and you can replace the seal. If you don't, the water may eat into the bearings and they will need replaced. Or, in the worst case, the shaft will get scarred and then you have a big problem.

You cannot buy replacement shafts - they must be custom machined.
You cannot buy replacement pumps - none are made
You can buy bearings, seals, impellers, clip rings, & gaskets, so you can keep your E20 running if you stay on top of things

If you run across any old Sherwood E20 pumps, please let me know. I have a few Palmer 60's in need of water pumps.

- David
