Hi, I have access to a sterling engine, a Petrel model. Big old thing some 225 horse, inline with two sets of ignition--coils, plugs, etc. It's a beaut of a thing, but I'm not able to find any info about the company, repair manuals, parts sources or anything. Any info or websites would be GREATLY appreicated! ~martin |

You might want to contact a Mr. Dick Brown of Newport Beach California. He has a Sea Lyon with a 225 Sterling Petrel. His e-mail is [email protected]. There was an article in Classic Boating on his boat and engine. |

There's often a oval shaped german silver badge affixed to one of the inspection covers that states" The engine of distinction for the finest boats that float" Hope your potential engine has Zenith instead of Stromberg carbs-will make your life a whole lot more tolerable.Nothing like the sound of a big 6cyl 783 CI. Sterling Petrel charging along at 1800 RPM. Peak RPM is around 2000-2200 RPM. An awful lot of metal moving in different directions at that RPM I'll tell ya... |

Robert, That’s very nice of you to offer me a copy of the manual. If I end up being able to get this engine, I’ll definitely take you up on that. It might be some months until (and if) that happens. I’ll save your email address and get back to you. Again, thanks. ~martin |
